Vancouver Island to Whitehorse (Yukon) Robert Van Den Hoven, April 10, 2026April 10, 2026 The morning air in Cairns was already warm and heavy with tropical humidity as we made our way to the airport, the first step in a very long journey back to Canada. There is always excitement at the beginning of another adventure. We took off from Cairns and landed in Sydney, where a four-hour stopover in the Qantas First Class Lounge felt like a mini-vacation, great A La Carte Meals and deserts, a shower. Time to board and sixteen hours later, with a surprisingly good night’s sleep, Curled under a blanket high above the ocean, as the aircraft quietly carried us towards Vancouver late afternoon local time. After collecting our bags, we headed to our hotel and yet another dinner. The next morning, Steve and Leeann arrived to pick us up, together we made our way to the ferry for Vancouver Island, watching the mainland slowly fade behind us as the Gulf Islands came into view. Our final stop was Mill Bay, where Jay and Bernice had kindly been looking after our vehicle while we were away. Seeing it sitting there and reuniting with our Motorhome our second home. Next few days, vehicle maintenance, and upgrades to get ready for Alaska. With our Webasto engine, central, and floor heaters ready, Solar and batteries upgraded we are fully prepped for the Alaskan cold. We are now ready start of our Journey to Alaska.
