Kazakhstan Highlights KAZAKHSTAN GENERAL INFORMATION VIDEO COMPILATIONS PHOTO GALLERY GENERAL INFORMATION Kazakhstan is the largest landlocked country in the world. Located in the heart of Central Asia with a small portion extending into Eastern Europe. Known for its vast steppes, dramatic mountain ranges, deserts, and modern cities, The country has a population of over 20 million people and is home to more than 100 ethnic groups, creating a vibrant mix of traditions and customs. Its capital city, Astana, while Almaty, the country’s largest city. Since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Kazakhstan has blended its nomadic traditions with modern development while remaining rich in culture, history, and spectacular natural landscapes. As a Overlander tourist destination, Kazakhstan offers remote driving stunning landscapes, outdoor adventures, and historical landmarks. Highlights include, Tian Shan Mountains, the spectacular Charyn Canyon, Burabay National Park. Other highlights are the Hazrat Sultan Mosque in Astana, the Central Mosque in Almaty, and the spiritual city of Turkestan, where the UNESCO-listed Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi has attracted pilgrims for centuries. Combined with its vast open steppes, deserts, and mountains, these landmarks highlight the country’s unique mix of history, faith, and innovation. One place we would have loved to visit was Baikonur Cosmodrome, the world’s oldest and largest operational space launch facility. Its restricted airspace is closed during launches, making rocket viewing a rare experience that requires careful planning—something we unfortunately missed. Instead we found a great bush camp a few kilomters away with a great night time view for the Cosmodrome. 2. VIDEO COMPILATION A.
