1, General Information

Many think Mexico is part of Central America. (like us) but it is Part of  North of America and the third largest country in Latin America after Argentina and Brazil. Mexican society is divided by wealth and poverty, with little middle class wedged between the rich and poor. (minimum wages have just been raised to 6USD per 9-hour day) Mexico has 32 states and the 10^th most populous country in the world. Since 2007 over 130000 people have died due to drug related conflicts. However, this has not stopped tourism with over 39 million visitors every year.  Mexico despite the challenges it faces, Mexico is one of the chief economic and political forces in Latin America. It has a dynamic industrial base, vast mineral resources, and a wide-ranging service sector. Mexico City the capital, is one of the most populous cities and metropolitan areas in the world. More than half of the Mexican people live in the centre of Mexico whereas vast areas of the arid north and the tropical south are sparsely settled.

Mexico has a fascinating history going back thousands of years through the Mayan, Aztec and Olmec cultures that have left Mexico with a rich heritage of stunning archaeological sites. And some of the most famous beach resort cities in the world, Cancun, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Playa Del Carmen, and Cozumel. (that is if you like tourist hot spots)

Mexico is one of the most vibrant destinations in the world, offering an incredible blend of ancient history, breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and friendly people.  Located in Northern America, Mexico is bordered by the United States to the north, Guatemala and Belize to the southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea to the east. With its diverse geography vibrant atmospher and rich traditions, the country attracts millions of visitors every year.

Mexico is home to more than 130 million people and has a unique cultural identity shaped by a combination of Indigenous civilizations and Spanish heritage. Spanish is the official language, although many Indigenous languages are still spoken throughout the country. The Mexican peso is the national currency, and the country’s cuisine, music, and festivals are recognized and celebrated worldwide.

Mexico is also famous for its stunning natural beauty. You can relax on many remote white sandy beaches or in the tourist mecca’s of Cancún and the Riviera Maya, explore the dramatic coastline of Cabo San Lucas, or enjoy the crystal-clear waters of Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.

The country’s cities each offer their own unique experiences. Mexico City, the capital, combines modern attractions with historic architecture, world-class museums, lively markets, and outstanding restaurants. Guadalajara is known for its mariachi music, tunnels and tequila heritage, while Oaxaca is celebrated for its colonial charm, traditional crafts, and exceptional cuisine. San Miguel de Allende attracts visitors with its colorful streets, art galleries, and beautifully preserved historic center. just to name a few

Throughout the year, Mexico hosts colorful festivals that reflect its rich cultural heritage. One of the most famous is Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, when families honor loved ones with vibrant altars, flowers, music, and celebrations. Other major events include Independence Day celebrations in September and lively carnivals held in various regions before Lent.
