As a U.S. territory, it offers visitors the perfect blend of Spanish heritage and American convenience. From the colorful streets of Old San Juan and the impressive Spanish forts to the lush rainforest of El Yunque, pristine beaches, glowing bioluminescent bays, and warm, welcoming people, Puerto Rico has something for everyone. It’s a destination that leaves lasting memories. Our connection to Puerto Rico goes back much further than our recent travels. My very first visit was in the 1970s during a U.S. Marine training exercise. As Dutch marines based in the Carribean we were training on the island of Vieques, just east of Puerto Rico, with th US Marines. An experience that gave us our first glimpse of this beautiful part of the Caribbean. Returning years later as tourists has made us appreciate even more the island’s incredible scenery, vibrant culture, and friendly people.
